Editing Services
I’m a highly experienced editor, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders. I’ve edited a broad range of material over the course of my career, from consumer magazines to large, brand-focused websites and literary books. Whatever medium I’m working in, I love the process of bringing a story or publication into the world with care, thoughtfulness and sensitivity to the writer’s voice and intentions.
Here’s what I can do for you:
- Developmental editing
- A consideration of the ‘big picture’ narrative, offering suggestions to improve pace, character development or structure. Changes at this stage may involve substantial cuts or additions, large scale restructuring or refinement of ideas.
- Copy-editing
- Detailed attention to the fluency of sentences, and the messaging and clarity of the whole piece. This process may involve re-writing sentences, moderate restructuring and feedback on language choices, style and voice.
- Proofreading
- Ensuring the grammar, spelling and style is all correct according the client’s specific style guide or specifications. This stage involves ensuring there is consistency in the usage of American versus UK English, punctuation, abbreviations, capitals, tenses, foreign language words, and many more technical considerations.
